They Say Too Much Of Something Can Kill It. Can The Same Be Said For The Shadowhunter Books?

Okay! I'm going to be one hundred percent honest with everyone...I haven't even bought Chain of Gold, the first of Cassandra Clare's new Shadowhunter Chronicles trilogy, the Last Hours yet. #Gasp How can someone who loves the Shadowhunter chronicles as much as me (and yes, I am aware of all the controversy) not have pounded the pavement towards the bookstore to get my copy. Well, the thing is, I didn't hype up this book too much because I DO love this series and don't want to ruin the experience.
Let me reiterate.
I started truly expanding my horizons into the young-adult genre in 2013, when I was a junior in high school. Before, I was obsessed with books like The Clique and Babysitter's club (yeah, yeah I know). I was internet surfing and came across the trailer for the City of Bones movie and was instantly intrigued. The first chance I got, I picked up COB from my local library and became enamored with Cassie's world. And to this day, the Mortal Instruments, Infernal Devices and later the Dark Artifices became as near and dear to my heart as any first love. From that day on, I truly began to think of myself as a published writer, too. So, I have Cassie and the Shadowhunters to thank for that, too.
P.S, I'm one of the people who prefer the tv show to the movie. Yeah, Freeform's take on these books isn't note for note, but I feel like a lot of lovers for the series don't get that an adaptation that focuses more on the heart of the story than the actual plot will always be the big winner in my book. The movie was pretty much a lifeless shell with unenthusiastic actors and dry pacing trying to distract from the comically tropey mess that was the rest of the film.
I mean, come on dude! WTF was this?
So, here I am seven years later (still trying to write that book #screwadulting) after rereading these books a million times over and realizing that some feelings I had then don't carry over now. And with these realizations, I also realize that I'm also in the minority of fans who wish Cassie had just limited the Shadowhunter books to TMI, TID and TDA.
If you think about it, these three series really compliment the other pretty well. With the two additional series, I can't help but feel like the weight and glamor of the series will simultaneously start to fade and sink. There's a reason why people say you shouldn't have too much of a good think. Eventually your body will come to reject the taste that it's been so accustomed to and demand some variation. And coming from someone who will always admire Cassandra Clare and never stop being a fan of these books, I don't see too much variation in style with Cassie as more series in this world come out.
Now don't get me wrong, I love Cassie's style, but I love it in doses more. Eventually you have to mix things up and I just haven't seen that from her lately. Plus, she's choosing to focus both TLH and TWP on pretty much new characters that we either have never seen or we aren't that attached to because the other series didn't give them too much to do. I think I'm pretty set in what I know of the shadow world from the BIG 3 series enough to not get too excited for these next two.
I'll probably be faster to pick up Chain of Gold than any of the TWP books because my personal fav of these chronicles is the Infernal Devices, and I wouldn't mind reading about Will and Tessa and Jem and the gang again. However, I never much cared for Dru, Ty or Kit, so I really have no interest in ever reading anything where they are the main characters. It's not that they are bad characters, they're just not very interesting to follow.
It's times like these where I really wonder if Cassie really thinks adding continual series is best for the shadow world, or is she just not ready to let her baby go. As someone who wants to break out into the world of young-adult before she hits 30 in 6/7 years, I can relate. However, until then, I'm going to hold off on diving back into the shadow world. I'm all tapped out for now.
Happy Shadowhunting everybody! Here's a gif of our girl Isabelle being spectacular in seven inch heels!
